Our first full day in New Orleans was packed. We started the day
off at Mass in St. Louis cathedral. After Mass we went to Cafe du Monde in
Jackson Square. The beignets were to die for. What could be better than fried
dough covered in powder sugar? After the
snack, we had an hour to explore the French Quarter. We then met up and walked
to the French market. The market included vendors selling food and small
trinkets. After a couple of hours in the market, we enjoyed a nice authentic
lunch in the French Quarter. The highlight of the night was the performance at
Preservation Hall. Preservation Hall is a non-profit organization that strives
to keep the New Orleans Jazz tradition alive. The Hall is a small room with a
capacity of 89 people. Each of the musicians truly had a passion for what they
were doing and created a great performance. We even interacted with the
musicians with a song named "You Rascal You." This experience walking the streets of New
Orleans at night really showed the culture and customs of the city. Overall
from all the activities and nice weather we all really got a great taste of a
city to which we are not accustomed.
